When people are released from prison many continue to pay for their crime beyond time behind bars in fines and fees. On average, people reentering into their community are saddled with over $13,000 in court debt that they may or may not know about. Fines and fees are dealt with differently by state, which makes it difficult to develop a cohesive strategy for dealing with this debt. But, through a partnership with Iowa Legal Aid, CBA is seeking to design tools that support financial coaches in helping their clients navigate and address criminal justice related debt.
During this webinar, ILA will provide a demo of their tool. CBA and ILA will discuss next steps for participating in a pilot project.
