This webinar will define and describe the problem of coerced debt- a newly coined term for identity theft that occurs within a relationship by force, fraud or coercion. Presenters from Texas will highlight research conducted on this issue as well as outline what it looks like for consumer lawyers and advocates working with these victims towards remediation. Participants will learn about the Texas Coalition on Coerced Debt, Texas’ new law to address coerced debt as a form of identity theft, and tools being created to promote broader awareness, prevention and effective intervention in coerced debt cases. Walk away with practical steps to take in your roles as well as explore how strategies might be applied in your state.
